Project Based Learning

Project Based Learning (PBL) is an approach that helps children learn through meaningful, real-world challenges. At Shefford Lower, we organise learning around projects that encourage pupils to ask questions, explore ideas, and apply skills across subjects. For parents, this means your child’s learning is often visible through topics, presentations, and shared outcomes rather than only through worksheets.

In PBL, children work individually and collaboratively to plan, research, create, and reflect. Teachers guide pupils with clear goals and supportive scaffolding, while allowing space for curiosity and choice. As children develop their understanding, they also practise key skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and independent learning—skills that support progress in reading, writing, maths, and wider curriculum areas.

We welcome parent involvement and encourage you to ask about your child’s project, what they have learned, and how they solved challenges along the way. Sharing conversations at home can strengthen confidence and deepen understanding. If you would like to learn more about upcoming projects or how you can support your child, please speak with your child’s class teacher or check school updates.
