Brick By Brick

Our Brick-by-Brick intervention is a structured group programme that uses LEGO® building activities to support the development of social communication and collaboration skills. The sessions provide pupils with a fun, motivating environment where they can practise important social and learning behaviours through shared construction tasks.

During each session, pupils work together to build a model by following instructions and taking on different roles within the team. These roles might include a builder, engineer, or supplier, encouraging pupils to communicate clearly, listen to others, and work cooperatively to achieve a shared goal. Staff facilitate the sessions and support pupils in developing positive interaction skills.

The Brick-by-Brick approach helps pupils to develop a range of important skills, including:

  • Communication and expressive language

  • Turn-taking and listening

  • Teamwork and collaboration

  • Problem-solving and flexible thinking

  • Confidence in social situations

Sessions are typically delivered in small groups, allowing pupils to feel supported while practising social interaction in a structured and predictable setting. The activity-based format makes learning enjoyable and accessible for a wide range of learners.

Brick-by-Brick is particularly beneficial for pupils who may find social communication challenging, including those with autism, social communication differences, or anxiety around peer interaction. By working together to complete shared tasks, pupils develop stronger relationships with their peers and build confidence in their ability to communicate and cooperate.

Our aim is to provide a safe, engaging space where pupils can develop essential social skills while enjoying the creativity and satisfaction of building together.
