Interventions at Shefford Lower School

At Shefford Lower School we are committed to supporting every child’s learning, wellbeing and development. Alongside high-quality teaching in the classroom, we offer a range of targeted interventions to help children who may need additional support. These interventions are carefully selected to support pupils’ academic progress, emotional wellbeing, communication skills and sensory needs.

Our interventions include programmes such as Roots, Leaves & Wings, Hamish & Milo, and ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support) which focus on helping children develop confidence, resilience and emotional understanding. We also provide wellbeing and self-esteem support through programmes like Forest & Flourish, helping pupils connect with nature and build positive relationships.

For pupils who benefit from sensory or communication support, we offer Sensory Circuits, Lego Therapy, and Sail Into Sounds, which help to develop coordination, social interaction, speech and language skills in a structured and engaging way.

These interventions are delivered by trained staff either in small groups or one-to-one, depending on the needs of the child. We regularly review progress to ensure that the support provided is effective and helps pupils to thrive both academically and emotionally.
